It depends entirely on the species. While deadwood can be removed safely at any time of year, major pruning for most deciduous trees is best done in winter when they are dormant.

However, species like cherry, plum, or walnut should actually be pruned in mid-summer to prevent diseases like silver leaf. We will always advise on the perfect timing for your specific trees during our free site visit.
